Having the latest and greatest PC for gaming is cool and all, but sometimes a retro machine is even cooler. Origin PC’s latest prebuilt system is all about appreciating the way computers looked in the 90s.
As The Verge reports, the RestoMod is a limited-edition PC you can purchase now, starting at $2,072. For that price, you get a custom Corsair 4000D case that’s been made to resemble a classic PC on the outside, complete with a fake CD drive, floppy drive, and fake buttons. It’s built so you can appreciate the juxtaposition between new and old, with a clear panel that shows off the modern hardware inside.
That modern hardware, at least with the machine’s standard build, nets you 16GB of memory, a 2.9GHz Core i5 processor, 250GB of storage, and a 6GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti graphics card. You can swap out components as you see fit for a pricier mod, but you’re locked into purchasing the machine as a whole.
Unfortunately, there does not seem to be a way to buy the case alone to create your own DIY build. That means you’ll have to pony up the cash to buy an entirely new computer if you want in on the retro goodness.
From its custom beige coloring to the fake Turbo button beneath the floppy drive, the RestoMod is a fun throwback to the days of classic PC gaming. But if you’re looking to relive the glory days of DOS and Duke Nukem, you’ll want to act fast. There are only 50 of them available, and somehow they haven’t all been snapped up yet at the time of writing.
