Sony’s new lineup of Bravia XR TVs come with the promise of very high quality movie streaming thanks to the company’s new Bravia Core platform.
The service is exclusively for Bravia TV owners and uses proprietary always-on “Pure Stream” technology to stream videos at up to 80 Mbps, allowing for “lossless” picture quality that’s comparable to Blu-ray for a wide range of content.
“Everything you watch is delivered with stunning visuals and expressive sound quality,” Sony boasted. Bravia Core subscribers can access “an amazing selection” of fresh blockbusters and classic films anytime—as many times as you’d like—in up to 4K HDR quality. Choose from five Bravia XR models, all equipped with Cognitive Processor XR software to deliver “intelligence that reflects human cognitive characteristics.”
“It detects the viewer’s focal points, and cross-analyzes numerous image quality elements to produce a picture which is more natural and closer to human memory,” Sony explained in a press release. “It also upscales sound … to encapsulate the viewer in surround sound from top to bottom, and left to right, to deliver a realistic and immersive experience, close to the sensation of images and sound that people feel in real life.”
Customers can also access what the company claims is “the largest IMAX Enhanced collection”—optimized for Bravia XR to deliver remastered IMAX picture and immersive DTS sound—as well as behind-the-scenes footage, interviews, and more via Studio Access.
The service comes pre-installed on all new Bravia XR 4K and 8K models, including the Master Series Z9J and A90J, A80J, X95J, and X90J. Each TV comes with Bravia Core credits that can be cashed in to stream different titles; the number of credits and length of access depends on which model you choose to buy.
