Nokia is well-known for offering a range of budget smartphones that are good enough to get you through the day while typically costing under $200. This week, another budget handset is being introduced by brand owner HMD Global, and it only costs 99 euros ($120).

The Nokia 1.4 is a 6.51-inch Android 10 (Go edition) phone, with the promise of an upgrade to Android 11 (Go edition). It’s available in three colors (Fjord, Charcoal, and Dusk), and three configurations (1GB RAM/16GB storage, 1GB/32GB, and 3GB/64GB) with prices starting at $120. Nokia is also promising two-day battery life from the 4,000mAh battery.

Beyond the large HD+ 20:9 display, nobody can expect much from such a cheap smartphone. The low storage and RAM options make that clear, as does the Qualcomm 215 processor powering it and the choice of Micro USB for charging (a charger and cable are included with the handset). There’s 8MP auto-focus and 2MP macro cameras on the back, and a 5MP selfie camera housed in a teardrop at the top of the display. The available storage can be expanded by up to 128GB using the MicroSD card slot.

Even at this price, Nokia managed to squeeze in a fingerprint sensor mounted on the rear of the device. Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer and Vice President of North America, HMD Global explains that reliability and security were a focus, “As a father of two myself, I can relate to the challenges many families are facing with having to fit in so many activities at home. With these needs continuing to grow, we wanted to create a reliable and enjoyable experience that truly benefits all family members without adding to any household financial pressures.”

So if you need a phone that can handle social media apps, video calls, and surfing the web without breaking the bank, the Nokia 1.4 may work for you. However, keep in mind Nokia also offers a Nokia 3.1 Plus for $160 and a Nokia 5.3 for $185, both of which offer considerably more performance.
