Video conferences are the new normal for most businesses. Many users flock to Zoom for this purpose, but Google Meet remains a viable substitute.
According to TechRadar, Google Meet now offers several new choices when setting up a meeting. Users can start an instant meeting, set one up for later, or schedule one via Google Calendar, all of which should make it easier to corral users and set up spaces to chat.
Instant meetings bypass the Meet waiting room, and place everyone into conference without a wait. Joining means that both camera and mic will turn on immediately. Once in, users can add more people to the call with a few clicks.
Setting up a meeting for later will let users save invitee information and send out an invite for the same group at a different time. Scheduling Google Calendar meetings does exactly what it sounds like. These options aren’t available across all video-conferencing platforms. For instance, setting up meetings in Zoom can take time, as with Microsoft Teams, unless you’re setting up one-on-one video calls.
The update is currently rolling out to users on Google Workspace, G Suite, and vanilla Google account users. Workspace Essentials users will not be able to create meetings via Google Calendar, however.
