If you play Fortnite on Switch, Epic Games has some very good news for you today. With the latest update, the game will run at a higher resolution and a smoother framerate while taking up less storage space.

It’s not often you get a trio of improvements like this in a single update, but Epic has been working to make better use of the GPU contained in the Switch hardware. The end result is an upgraded renderer for the game, which unlocks the improvements.

The most noticeable of those will be the resolution boost. Currently Fortnite plays at a resolution of 1000-by-560 in handheld mode, and 1390-by-780 when docked. After the latest update is applied, handheld will be increased to 1170-by-660, and docked to 1560-by-880. It will still rely on the use of dynamic resolution switching, but the game is going to look much better running on Nintendo’s hardware regardless.

Epic says there’s no loss of performance from increasing the resolution, and players can also expect a “more consistent framerate, with fewer hitches, resulting in a smoother experience overall.” On top of that, the update manages to reduce the storage space required for the game by 140MB, which will be welcome news for anyone relying on a small memory card to store their Switch games.

The update should be available already, allowing Switch owners to enjoy the enhancement immediately. To initiate the update, make sure Fortnite is the selected icon on the Switch Home menu, then press the + or – button and select “Software Update” and then “Via the Internet.” Your Switch should then grab the latest patch if it’s available in your region.
