Even with the delays, the hype surrounding Cyberpunk 2077 hasn’t died down in the run up to its launch, but for anyone opting to play the game on last-gen consoles, be prepared for disappointment.
As IGN reports, CD Projekt Red’s game does not perform very well on the base PS4 or Xbox One hardware, to the point where jokes are already being made like that in the tweet by @Legolas below.
The problems players are experiencing include textures and objects popping into view, even right next to the player, low frame rates (20fps), and the resolution dropping to the point where the visuals get blurry. Eurogamer also notes experiencing “multiple characters locked in a T-pose, frozen in place or glitched into an object. You can still talk to these NPCs, but their mouths do not move.”
We have to keep in mind this is an ambitious new game running on hardware that’s seven years old, but even so, these types of problems are unacceptable in a game people are paying $60 to play. Of course, it’s a different story on PC and the new consoles, although a few glitches remain. Patches are already being worked on by the Cyberpunk development team for Sony and Microsoft’s old machines as suggested in a tweet this morning.
