If your holiday plans involved browsing at an Apple Store, you may need to rethink them.
As 9to5Mac reports, Apple has closed several of its retail stores worldwide for the foreseeable future. This includes every retail location in California and Tennessee in the US, all stores in Mexico and Brazil, and 16 additional UK-based locations. There’s no official reopening date listed on Apple’s page listing store closures.
Affected locations will be open for same-day delivery orders, existing online order pickups, and appointments through Dec. 22. Apple also has a rundown on its website of the latest dates to order your holiday gifts with free shipping.
Though Apple hasn’t explicitly spelled it out, these closures are likely due to a surge of recent COVID-19 cases in California as well as the recently announced emergency lockdown in London brought on by the “current COVID-19 conditions,” according to to Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
Apple has closed (and re-closed) a number of stores throughout 2020. These precautionary measures will likely continue as COVID-19 cases ebb and flow.
